Ticket Purchase and Travel Guidelines for University Student Discounts

For detailed regulations, please refer to the Taiwan Railway website: University Student Discount Program.

Taiwan Railway Verification Requirements

  1. Passengers must carry their original valid student ID card (or other documents sufficient to verify their current student status) when traveling.
  2. The student ID card must include proof of registration for the current semester. If the student ID card does not bear a registration stamp, the registration stamp is unclear, or the university does not require registration stamps, students must also provide a Certificate of Enrollment for the current semester (either a paper copy or an electronic file).
  3. Passengers must present their ticket and relevant supporting documents upon inspection. Taiwan Railway does not accept on-site verification by logging into an online system. Please make sure to download or print your Certificate of Enrollment before boarding the train.

Reminder to Students:

Before taking Taiwan Railway, please make sure to have your student ID card and Certificate of Enrollment (paper copy or electronic file) ready to avoid affecting your eligibility for the student discount.

According to Taiwan Railway's Q&A and additional information provided by Hualien Station staff:

Current Students: Before the semester begins, students may use their Certificate of Enrollment from the previous semester (Spring Semester 2026 / Academic Year 114, Semester 2) to qualify for the discount.

New Students: Until October 31, new students may present the original copy of their admission/enrollment notice or registration document together with a valid identification document to qualify for the discount.

Certificates of Enrollment, proof of admission/enrollment, admission/enrollment notices, or registration documents must be original paper documents. A printed copy of an electronic document bearing an official stamp from a university administrative office will also be regarded as an original document. (If students are not yet able to submit the printed document to the university to obtain an official physical stamp, they are still advised to print and carry a paper copy for inspection by train conductors.)

If the registration document is not an original paper document, proof of completed payment must also be provided in order to qualify for the discount.
