Master's Scholarships & Funding

For NDHU Undergraduates Continuing to a Master's Program: Students may apply for the Five-Year Bachelor's–Master's Program from the second semester of their junior year. Those who qualify as pre-master's students and subsequently meet the progression requirements may receive a 50% tuition and miscellaneous-fee reduction during their senior year.

Outstanding Master's Freshman Admission Award

University-level Award for Outstanding New Graduate Students

Up to NT$50,000

NDHU encourages outstanding students to pursue a master's degree at the University. Students who meet the academic-performance criteria or are admitted in the same year to designated master's programs in relevant fields at specified universities may apply for an admission award.

Award AmountNT$25,000 or NT$50,000 depending on the qualifying criterion. Awards under different provisions may not be combined; applicants may receive only one.
Current NDHU GraduatesStudents ranked in the top 10% over the first three years may receive NT$50,000; those in the top 20% may receive NT$25,000. Top-10% recipients whose first-year master's GPA reaches 3.7 may apply once more.
Application ProcedureApplications are compiled and submitted by the student's department within two weeks after the start of the first semester.
Eligibility and Other Award Criteria
  • Applicants must be currently enrolled NDHU students and must not be foreign nationals, students from Mainland China, or persons holding other full-time employment.
  • Current-year graduates of NDHU or other universities who meet the regulations regarding admission to NDHU and admission in the same year to designated master's programs in relevant fields at specified universities may also apply.
  • Final eligibility and the designated universities/fields are subject to the latest regulations.

Includes the Master's Continuing-Student Scholarship and Master's Admission Elite Scholarship.

Continuing-Student ScholarshipFirst- and second-year master's students who have completed registration.
Admission EliteStudents admitted to the Department as the top-ranked admit through NDHU master's screening or entrance examination.
Award AmountThe amount and number of months funded each semester are generally determined by the semester budget.

Master's Academic Excellence Scholarship

Separate Selection for Domestic / International Students

From the Second Semester

Domestic and international students are evaluated separately and may apply from their second semester based on cumulative academic performance.

GPA Requirement Cumulative GPA of 3.3 (B+) or above.
Ranking Requirement Top three or top 30% within the applicable student category, whichever yields the smaller number of recipients.
Multiple Awards Subject to available funding, recipients may receive more than one master's scholarship listed in the guidelines.

University-level Award for Outstanding New Graduate Students

NT$60,000 Up to Three Awards

Current-year NDHU bachelor's or master's graduates who are admitted through screening or entrance examination, or approved for direct admission to an NDHU doctoral program, may apply if they meet the regulations.

Award AmountNT$60,000 per award.
Renewal RequirementAfter entering the doctoral program, students with an average GPA of 3.70 (80/100) or above in the preceding academic year may apply again according to the regulations.
Number of AwardsUp to three awards in total.

Department of Economics Ph.D. Scholarship

Department-level Graduate Scholarship

Ph.D. Years 1–3

The Ph.D. scholarship provides a fixed monthly base amount, with additional funding for passing qualifying examinations and presenting papers at eligible academic conferences.

Base ScholarshipBase amount: NT$3,000 per month.
Research SupplementFor each qualifying subject examination passed or eligible paper presented, the monthly scholarship increases by NT$2,000 beginning the following semester.
Supplement CapUp to an additional NT$4,000 per month; the actual number of funded months remains subject to the semester budget.

MOE Doctoral Scholarship

Domestic Non-employed Ph.D. Students | Years 1–3

Domestic StudentsNT$40,000 / MonthNo Concurrent NSTC Award

Beginning in Academic Year 115, the Ministry of Education provides doctoral scholarships to encourage outstanding students to pursue doctoral research. NDHU administers the program under MOE rules and University procedures.

EligibilityRepublic of China nationals who are non-employed and enrolled in the first, second, or third year of a doctoral program.
Scholarship AmountUnder the current AY 115 arrangement, NT$40,000 per month: NT$30,000 funded by the Ministry of Education and NT$10,000 provided through matching support from the college/department, advisor, enterprise, or other sources.
Concurrent Award RestrictionStudents receiving the NSTC Doctoral Research Scholarship may not receive this scholarship concurrently.
ApplicationApplication schedule, quota, and review procedures follow the annual announcement of the Office of Research and Development.

NSTC Doctoral Research Scholarship

CHASS / NSTC Research Talent Development

For first-year doctoral students newly admitted to CHASS in the relevant year, subject to departmental, college, and University review. The actual award amount and duration follow the University announcement for that year.

Primary EligibilityFirst-year doctoral students registering in February or September of the relevant year.
Key RestrictionsStudents with full-time paid employment, in-service status, certain specified statuses, or funding of the same government-scholarship nature are not eligible.
Application Document ReminderThe required application materials include a recommendation letter from the advisor. Prospective applicants are advised to contact Department faculty early and confirm advising willingness. Please refer to the University guidelines below and the annual announcement for the complete application requirements.

NDHU Scholarship for International Students

University-level Scholarship for International Degree Students

Master'sPh.D.

NDHU provides a University-level scholarship program for international degree students. Awards are determined according to degree level, academic performance, annual funding, and review results.

EligibilityInternational degree students formally enrolled at NDHU; master's and doctoral students apply under the current regulations and annual announcements.
AwardScholarship items, amounts, and quotas are determined according to the current OIA regulations, annual budget, and review results.
ApplicationApply during the period announced by the Office of International Affairs through the University's designated system.

Outstanding Scholarship for International Ph.D. Students

Ph.D.International Students

NDHU also offers an Outstanding Scholarship for International Ph.D. Students. This is a separate program from the Elite Scholarship for International Ph.D. Students.

Tuition and Fees50% or 100% waiver, depending on review results.
Living StipendNT$10,000 per month; actual quotas depend on the annual budget and number of international degree students.
ApplicationContinuing students apply through the University system within two weeks after the start of each semester.
Award PeriodThe combined doctoral award period under this program and the general NDHU scholarship for international students may not exceed three years.
Other RestrictionsExclusion and concurrent-award rules involving other government or University scholarships follow the current regulations.

Elite Scholarship for International Ph.D. Students

Established to attract international doctoral students with strong research potential. Funding may be awarded for up to three years, approved one year at a time with annual renewal applications.

MOE Taiwan ScholarshipFor eligible international students pursuing degree study in Taiwan. This is different from the MOE Doctoral Scholarship for domestic doctoral students.
MOFA Taiwan ScholarshipA separate Taiwan Scholarship program administered by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; eligibility and application procedures follow MOFA and overseas mission rules.
New Southbound Elite ScholarshipA specialized Ministry of Education program with eligibility and implementation rules distinct from the general Taiwan Scholarship.

Department of Economics Teaching Assistantships (TA)

Key Teaching & Financial Support Opportunity for Graduate Students

Priority for Non-employed Master's & Ph.D. Students

The Department assigns teaching assistants (TAs) according to course needs. Instructors select eligible current students, with priority generally given to non-employed master's and doctoral students.

Regular TA AssignmentTAs are regularly assigned to Principles of Economics and other foundational and core courses.
Elective CoursesTA allocation begins when enrollment reaches 20 students.
Duties Tutorials, problem-solving sessions, group discussions, academic consultation, and other instructional support.
Pay & Appointment PeriodDetermined by the approved semester budget, employment contract, and actual hours worked.
Recent Actual Allocation Reference
  • Spring 2026 (AY 114-2) course-allocation records show monthly amounts of approximately NT$1,500–15,000, depending on course characteristics and enrollment.
  • For Spring 2026 (AY 114-2), appointments ran from mid-March to June 30, 2026, with 3.5 months of pay issued.
  • These figures reflect actual implementation for one semester only and do not constitute a fixed pay standard.

NDHU provides funding for doctoral students to present papers at international academic conferences held overseas. This is a University-level program, not a conference subsidy established by the Department of Economics.

Primary EligibilityDoctoral students who have been enrolled for at least one academic year.
Funding CapUnder the current guidelines, up to NT$25,000 per application.
Number of AwardsIn principle, once per fiscal year.
